Training Description
Engineering Mindset and problem-based learning are recognized as a natural fit in building social-emotional skills in children with diverse learning needs. In this 4-part training coupled with eight hours of coaching in classroom teams, we explore how to use problem-solving as a tool to teach social-emotional skills like self-regulation, perseverance, and collaboration that benefit children in all areas of learning and life. Together we examine Engineering Mindset through three lenses, all of which support social-emotional competence:
- Nurturing National Academy of Engineering Six Habits of Mind.
- Implementing effective problem-solving processes.
- Employing solution-oriented teaching strategies that empower and motivate.
PLC Training Topics (3 Hours each)
- Introduction and Introspection of Engineering Mindset
- Collaborative Implementation of Engineering Mindset
- Supporting Diverse Learning Needs through Engineering Mindset
- Reflective Practice and Celebration of Learning
Practice-based Coaching
Practice-based coaching occurs in between training sessions with each teaching team. Apply what you learn immediately in your classroom and receive coaching along the way through online and face-to-face idea sharing, reflection, and action planning. Reflection journals are used throughout and a celebration of learning brings it all to a close in this active, insightful, and highly collaborative professional co-learning community.
Learning Goals
- Reflect and assess your approach to problem-solving, how you fit into the Engineering Mindset model, and where growth can occur.
- Envision and brainstorm how this model will look for your teaching team, children, and families when fully integrated into classroom culture.
