Online 12-hours –  6 2-hour sessions (credit for physical attendance only, no makeups)

Competency:

  • Social-emotional Health & Development Promotion – Child Guidance: Discipline/Promoting Social and Emotional Competence SEHD 6.1 – 6.2
  • Child Observation & Assessment – Gathering and Documenting COA 3.1 – 3.2, Sharing and Reporting COA 5.1 – 5.2

Age Group: T, PS, SA

In this unique PLC, we explore children’s behavior by examining our own “image of the child” and how this influences behavior in your classroom.  Become inspired to join the children on an inquiry adventure and learn how to facilitate more cooperation, empathy, and citizenship that positively shifts children’s behaviors.  The trick is to establish a culture of curiosity and belonging that will keep children challenged and excited about co-constructing curriculum with you and each other.   To do this, we explore the following key elements of Reggio Emelia approach that support guiding children’s behavior:

  • Child as protagonist, collaborator, and communicator
  • Environment as third teacher
  • Teacher as partner, nurturer, and guide
  • Documentation as communication

Training Session Topics Include (spread out over 6 sessions):

  • Your “Image of the Child” and its connection to behaviors in your classroom
  • Rhythm & Flow: establishing flexible structure for positive guidance
  • Guiding behaviors using documentation and storytelling
  • Reflective practice and celebration of learning

Teaching teams are encouraged to attend together.  Each session provides time for reflection and teaching team collaborative work.
